Secure your smart devices with SSL.com

The Internet of Things (IoT) is growing exponentially each year, and SSL.com has all the tools and expertise needed to help providers issue and manage the lifecycle of publicly-trusted X.509 certificates on their devices, including:

Custom solutions:

As the experts in SSL/TLS, SSL.com collaborates with IoT manufacturers to optimize the generation, installation, and lifecycles of certificates for their devices. For example, a cable modem, set-top box, or other Internet-connected device could be configured to:

    • Connect on booting via a client certificate to a server which creates a subdomain and DNS `A` record with the local IP address that the device is listening on (e.g. 123456.example.com 192.168.1.1).
    • Generate a private key and certificate signing request (CSR) for the subdomain and retrieve a SSL/TLS certificate. Alternately, low-powered devices could be shipped with a private key and optionally a CSR pre-installed or stored in SSL.com’s CSR Manager.
    • Automatically manage certificate lifecycle and rekeying for the lifetime of the device.
    • Your customer can now seamlessly and securely connect to the device’s admin screen with a web browser, avoiding SSL/TLS-related warnings and errors and/or the need to create security exceptions for a self-signed certificate.

    • For an alternate, more detailed example of how a procedure like this can work in practice, please read this article.

Manage the life cycle of any digital certificate (SSL/TLS, code signing, S/MIME, etc) directly through your CA web interface or our API.

SSL Web Services (SWS) API:

Order, download, rekey, and revoke certificates directly from your servers and/or smart devices.
